Coral + Dustin: Save the Date Session
Houston, TX
Spooky Season!
Halloween might be my favorite season of the year. As soon as September 1st hits, I'm in full costume mode until December 31st, when the Nightmare Before Christmas has fulfilled its duty as the primary source of holiday cheer for the season. Halloween isn't just a holiday, it's a season of its own. My friends have different reasons for celebrating Halloween as a season and not just a single day. For some, it's a reason to dress up and pretend to be someone else, someone other than themselves for a little while. For others, it's a time of year where they can express their feelings through visual art like costumes and make-up. Some of my friends only celebrate the season for the half-off candy on November 1st. I'm here for all of it so when I got to shoot Coral and Dustin's Save the Dates, I was over the moon.

The shoot:
In about 2 weeks, we were able to get everything together. I'd known Coral for a couple of weeks before the shoot so I knew going into it that it would be fun. Her ideas were really great and before we even did the shoot, I knew how I wanted to edit the photos. Everything had to scream fall, even if Texas wasn't doing the yelling. The only thing I didn't expect was the pleasant surprise I got...
Penny! Penelope was the happiest surprise I could've ever gotten. She was so calm and docile when we first met at Coral + Dustin's apartment that I didn't know how she would react when we actually started shooting. All dogs have their own personalities and I love watching them all at work. Watching her, she was so patient and willing to listen to her humans that I knew there wasn't going to be a huge problem with time spent getting the shot with Penny.

Penny doing her best
Penny was just making sure every part of the adventure was safe. She obviously loved being free to roam around the small area and protect her humans from all the dangers of the forest itself. After watching her eyes dart from tree to tree and back to hear parents any time they moved, she was doing a good job of staying alert.

Penny at her best
Penny was doing such a great job exploring that she didn't realize she was supposed to be taking pictures too. But when the settings were on high action mode, I was able to get Penny at her best with her parents. When you act excited enough about the word, "Treat," they're bound to look at you as if you're crazy at some point. This was the look.
